THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR LIBRARY CARD
Patron must present his/her library card when checking out materials. Patrons may not check out materials with another person’s card. There will be a $1.00 replacement fee for a lost or damaged card. There is a limit of five dvd’s, and three video games for a total of 75 items per card. You must have less than $5.00 in fines to check out materials.

LIBRARY CARD
How to apply for a Byron Public Library District card
Residents – All residents of the Byron Public Library District are eligible for a free library card. To get a card, bring in proof of identity and residency. Children ages 5-12 may apply for a library card, but must have a parent or guardian present. The parent or guardian must sign the card in person at the library. All resident cards shall be issued for a three year period.
Apply for a card from home – Residents can now apply for a library card from home! Email a selfie, your phone number, a picture of your current photo ID, and a recent utility bill to library@byronlibrary.org. Someone on staff will email you your new card number for immediate use and mail the card to you.
Non-Residents and Property Owners – Persons not residing in the Byron Public Library District or other public library district, but who own property in the district may apply for a library card. Bring in the current years tax bill pertaining to the taxable property to receive this type of card. This card will be valid for one year.
CHECKING OUT
Books/Magazines/CDs/Audiobooks
New items will have a two week checkout period and may not be renewed. Older items will have a two week checkout period and may be renewed twice if no one has requested the item. Damaged or lost items will be billed to patron at replacement cost. Children’s Talking Books are limited to 3 at a time.
DVD
All Byron Public Library District items are due after 14 days. The only exception is adult DVD movies labeled NEW. These DVDs are due after 7 days. Limit 5 and may not be renewed. Damaged or lost DVDs will be billed to patron at replacement cost.
Video Games
All Byron Public Library District items are due after 14 days. Limit 3 and may not be renewed. Damaged or lost video games will be billed to patron at replacement cost.
Library of Things (STEM kits, HotSpots, iPads, etc.)
All Library of Things items are due after 14 days. Damaged or lost materials will be billed to patron at replacement cost.
Local history materials
Not available to check out, but can be viewed in our board room.
ON-SITE SERVICES
All black and white prints are $0.10. This includes printing from the public computers, scanner, microfilm machine, and wireless printing. All color prints are $0.25. Wireless printing allows you to print virtually any document or web page from your Internet connected PC to the library’s printer. No additional software is required. If you cannot pick up your print within 2 hours, please call the library staff to print for you before it automatically deletes.
Kodak Printing
Photo printing from your phone or SD card. 4″ x 6″ prints are $.25, 8″ x 10″ prints are $3.00. Other sizing and pricing options available.
Fax
The cost of sending a fax from the library is $1.00 for the first page, and $0.25 for every page thereafter. Everything that is being faxed must be on loose leaf, letter-sized paper (8.5×11). Photocopies are $0.10 per page if photocopies need to be made.
Scanner
The Byron Public Library District has a scanner available for public use. Printing a scanned image is $0.10 for black and white prints, and $0.25 for color prints. Emailing the images or saving them on a USB flash drive (not provided by the library) is free. Our scanner has the ability to save in several different formats, such as PDF, JPG, and WORD.
CD/DVD/Video Game Cleaner
Have a disc at home that wont play? For $1.00 each, we can try to repair your scratched discs (maximum of five per visit). Staff will try to have your discs cleaned or repaired within 48 hours. The Byron Public Library District assumes no responsibility for damage to the disc or for loss of content nor does the library guarantee that the disc cleaning/repair machine will be able to repair all discs.
VHS to DVD Conversion Station
Drop off up to 5 VHS tapes at a time. Please allow up to a week for conversion. Purchase of DVD is $1.00.

Share the document you wish to print with the Princh app.
Lastly, please pay for all printed items at the Circulation Desk.
COMPUTER USE
Logging onto Byron Public Library Districts computers requires the users library card. Patrons having more than $10.00 in fines are not allowed to use the computers until the fine is paid. Residents of other communities may use their local library cards to use Byrons computers after stopping by the front desk to check the status of their card. If you are not from Illinois, a guest pass will be provided with proof of identification.
Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian read and sign a Computer Users Agreement in person. This is a one-time form that will be valid until the child turns 18. Computers can be used for 60 minutes a day. If there is no one waiting for a computer, an additional 30 minutes can be requested from a librarian. All printing and saving of files must be completed within the patrons time slot or all information will be lost. Library staff is not responsible for monitoring children’s use of the Internet. Parents or legal guardians are encouraged to discuss with their children issues of appropriate use and information safety in regard to the Internet. Patrons may not store work on the hard drive.
The cost to print from the computers is $0.10 per page for black-and-white, and $0.25 per page for color prints. Violations of the Byron Public Library District Computer Use Policy may result in suspension of all computer privileges for a period of three months.
ROOM RESERVATIONS
Priority for the use of the meeting rooms will be given first to library sponsored meetings or programs, then to other meetings or programs. Refreshments are allowed, but clean-up is the responsibility of the persons or group using the room.
There is no charge for non-profit use of the meeting rooms. For persons or organizations hosting an event that is for-profit, there is a $25 per hour charge for the room.
Room use is limited to 3 hours per day, and up to 8 hours per week. Rooms can be reserved up to 30 days in advance. The classrooms can be reserved up to a year in advance by calling the library and speaking to one of our staff.
